HDR compatible

Capable of receiving and displaying HDR meta data, Optoma HDR compatible projectors allow you to see far more detail and texture. Objects look more solid and life like and the extra detail creates a greater sense of depth. It’s like looking through a window.

Amazing colours

Amazing colours

Watch your movies, TV shows and play games with stunning colours in any environment. Optoma projectors provide reliable performance suitable for any content and environment. Our home projectors are capable of reproducing the Rec.709 colour gamut, the international HDTV standard to guarantee accurate reproduction of cinematic colour exactly as the director intended. Or more saturated colours for a punchy looking image, great for gaming and animated movies.

Vertical Lens Shift

Simplify installation with vertical lens shift, which provides a wider range of projector placement possibilities. This makes it easier to position the projector in your room and enables a wider range of screen size options.

This technology ensures all the information contained in an image is faithfully reproduced on the screen giving a stunning crystal clear, pin-sharp picture.

Colour Management System (CMS)

Display accurate lifelike colours to best match your viewing environment. This unique feature provides you with the flexibility to fine-tune the colour settings for optimal precision.

Most movies are shot at 24 frames per second (fps). To preserve the purity of the original image, Optoma projectors can accept high definition sources at 24 fps to display movies exactly as the director intended.

British Film Collectors Convention
March 2018

“Altogether it is an excellent machine.  For those wanting a proper home cinema effect as near to 35mm as you can get, then one of these Optomas is probably the way to go.”

January 2018

“The Optoma UHD550X is certainly a price hit. The image quality remains at the highest level extensively, which we are also used by Optoma projectors in higher price ranges. If you watch TV with the UHD550X, you'll enjoy a perfect and smooth TV playback.”

December 2017

The Russian magazine Chip scored the UHD550X 90.2% overall:

  • Image quality 91%
  • Ergonomics 100%
  • Equipment 84.1%
  • Energy efficiency 75%

They said:

You are unlikely to find a UHD-projector cheaper than the Optoma UHD550X. In addition to the interpolated 4K resolution (2716x1528 pixels native, 3840x2160 pixels with XPR technology), the device we tested surprised us with a lot of additional functionality - HDR support, a large range of image scaling.

Its brightness will be enough for a home cinema in the living room and contrast was decent too.

Given the specs on the Optoma UHD550X 4K UHD 2800 you'll be hard pushed to find a better deal that promises impeccable cinema-esque clarity.

4K projection for the masses

“The question is, how easy is it to set up and how well does it perform? The answer is pretty well on both counts.”

“One thing I was impressed with was the way in which HDR compatibility was dealt with. Some HDR projectors don’t give you much leeway in HDR adjustment, with the result that shadow details are lost to the murk; here, it’s simple to tweak those levels to achieve a watchable image”

“if you want to make the most of your 4K content you need a really big screen and the only way to get that right now without spending thousands of pounds is with a projector like the Optoma 550UHDX. It's well worth putting on your 4K shortlist.”

September 2017

“I can say that the Optoma UHX550X impressed me with the level of detail offered in 4K resolution, after calibration of course. Silent operation and audio playback are good and I can recommend it for use in the dining room but also in a conference room. For the price, this is the best choice for those who want a 4K budget projector.”

September 2017

UHD550X can deliver delightful 4K visuals. The image quality belies the price tag, and there's good reason to consider this projector as an affordable upgrade from an ageing 1080p unit. The level of detail from a 4K source is genuinely impressive, particularly at a screen size of 100 inches or more, and upscaling of regular HD content is perfectly competent.

Optoma has breathed new life into the 4K projector market with a trio of models priced from £1,999. At the entry-level end of the scale, the tempting UHD550X puts 4K clarity and HDR compatibility within reach of mainstream users.

Bottom line: whichever 4K Optoma you choose, there's now a genuine reason to consider a projector instead of a TV in the sub-£3,000 space.

Simon todd, Littlehampton West Sussex : United Kingdom, August 2017.Purchased from Amazon
Just upgraded from a hd33 to a uhd550x and wow 4k on a 106" screen is amazing the hdr makes the colour pop good blacks and shadow detail for a dlp and it's practically silent , can't hear it running at all It's a big step up from my hd33 it's also double the size , it's a huge unit 500mm wide but it looks good on the ceiling, it's a shame they have dropped the 3d but having 4k over 3d is better and I can only hope there might be an update to get dlp link 3d working All in all totally happy with my purchase and totaly recommended the uhd550x
