August 2019

MacFormat gave the HD27e 5 stars in its issue 342 and said:

“This projector can expand your Apple TV viewing experience – literally – as it can project up to 7.65m diagonally. Picture quality is crisp and clear, and the device is very easy to set up.  The only drawback is sound – while it’s perfectly acceptable, it won’t exactly blow your socks off.  But for £550, you’re getting a truly excellent budget projector that’ll take your Apple TV setup to the next level.”

The Telegraph
February 2019

The image quality is solid – full HD no less. Obviously it’s not quite as powerful as a top 4K system, but it’s also a third of the price. Swings and roundabouts. At 1,500 lumens, the picture is bright enough to be clearly visible even in daylight (though it does improve improved in a darkened space). And the speakers are good enough for a smallish room.

One of the other fun quirks of this particular projector is that it’s capable of showing 3D footage, so if you were one of the few people who decided to invest in the 3D revolution of 2010, it’s time to celebrate, you’ve finally found another use for those expensive 3D glasses.

The price feels right and fair and the specifications are good.

Home Cinema Choice
August 2018

Used in Cinema mode in a blacked-out room with the gorgeous Hacksaw Ridge on Blu-ray, the HD27e impresses with realism and contrast. Its colour handling is solid, with an even, well-balanced approach across the palette.

Motion performance is also creditable. Blur wasn’t a major issue, with detail generally retained during camera pans and fast motion.

The HD27e actually surprised with audio. Not only is it noticeably quieter in operation than many rivals, its built -in 10W speaker delivers a sound performance that’s easy on the ear and up to the task of filling a small room.

For those with large BD collections and no interest in ‘stepping up’ to 4K, it delivers a cinematic experience at a budget price.

Tech 404
August 2018

This thing is more than capable of creating a pretty razor sharp image for a sub-£600 projector – so big thumbs up here!

The HD27e also does well in terms of gaming performance.  This is definitely one to consider for those that are into gaming.

For most people you will be looking at this thinking that looks pretty good in a room with a fair amount of ambient light. You can see the sharpness.

Out of the box settings on this projector are pretty darn good as well.

A great affordable first projector or if you are setting up a home theatre for under £1000 this is definitely one to consider.

Great sport mode, great gaming mode, good black levels.  The sharpness is remarkable

May 2018
The entry-level Optoma HD27e does not claim to deliver best-ever images, but for anyone looking for a projector to take anywhere and do anything, it will do an excellent job. Who needs 4K when Full HD can be this much affordable fun.

Optoma Hd27e

Really happy with the purchase. I’ve been researching different projectors for a couple of weeks and settled with this model after reading numerous reviews. I haven’t been disappointed with it and the image is great for the price. I would definitely recommend this projector. I have watched sports and movies with no issues. Fan sound is ok as I know much is commented on this. Overall a good purchase.

Slightly Overpriced - Good Quality
Alexandru Ciubotariu, Stratford-upon-Avon : United Kingdom, June 2019.Purchased from Amazon.co.uk
Pros: 1080p native. Quick installation and setup. Mostly accurate colors with a bit of tweaking. Backlit Remote (FREAKING AWESOME!). Sleek looks. Cons: Low lamp life! Expect this to fail within 1-2 years. High Lamp Price. Loud Fan/s outside of Eco mode. No Image Height Adjustment - i had to use a box to tilt the projector and then use keystone. Hot exhaust. Overpriced - would be a best buy if it had a 300-350 price tag. Conclusion: With normal usage (3-5 hrs per day - 8-10 in weekends) i am expecting the lamp to die out within a year. Then i will have to spend 100 GBP on a new lamp (25% of the projector price) which is not that great. Worth buying if you have a good sound system and a good placement for your projector. The fans can get really loud and the exhaust can heat up the room in the winter (seriously... it will heat up the room).

Projector is the easy part!
Andy Harding, NR128TR : United Kingdom, April 2019.Purchased from Richer Sounds
Easy to find at good price on web, easy to collect, well packaged, everything in the box that should be, connected up & worked perfectly immediately. Then tried to ceiling mount it.....the less said the better. The problems were with my ceiling, my drill, drill bit.... The Optoma sat smugly by, smiling to itself in its perfection.

Absolutely amazing the picture quality is awesome, sound from speaker is even better crystal clear. I would recommend this projector to any first time buyer to the projection world, it is like being in the cinema, pop corn, drinks too. the further you move the projector the bigger the picture and quality remains the same can't recommend enough so, so, so pleased with my purchase for the price thank you Optoma a great product.

Feedback about Optoma HD27e DLP Projector
Nagarajan Subbiah, CV1 4PY : United Kingdom, January 2019.Purchased from Richer Sounds
I am really impressed with the projector HD27E, its price would be worth the money. I had been keeping an eye out for something with native 3D as 3D TVs are hard to find now. After setting it up and seeing the picture quality I couldn't be happier I took the plunge. First, the output is full HD not the 1080i I was used to previously, the difference really is noticeable and produces a brilliant crisp image. The brightness is fantastic even during the day time. Obviously, the picture looks better the darker it is, but it is more than watchable during daytime lighting. As for the 3D I have only used it in DLP mode with the cheaper glasses, but the performance is seamless. It really does give you that cinema experience if you are able to get a large projection space from it. I have used it with both satellite box and Play Station as 3D players and they both work fine. One note of caution when I first set it up I got a horrible crackling noise across the sound output. I finally worked out that if you set your player to Dolby output it doesn't seem to handle it properly. If you set audio output to normal/stereo it works fine. If you want the Dolby experience as well you will need to connect directly to the audio output of the player or console that you are using, you will not be able to pass the sound signal back through the projector itself. The reviews I checked out online before buying said this was a budget entry projector, I don't think there is anything budget about it at all and would highly recommend it.

Fifa on a projector 😮
Andy Talbot, Eastbourne : United Kingdom, December 2018.Purchased from Richer Sounds
Unbelievable picture and makes games come to life on ps4 especially fifa. Can't wait to watch the football at the weekend. Had a few projectors in past but for the money this projector is everything you could ask for. Will take a lot to choose another make than optoma. Love the differnet setting for cinema and gaming really helpful.

Xmas television joy

I notice what I thought was some excellent costume design when watching television when I sat down to view the first TV programmes on BBC. But then noticed it on ITV. I then realised that it was the superior projector that we bought giving us a little bit more in terms of HD clarity and colour. My household is very impressed. A friend was also addressed at the projector's performance in diffuse sunlight

Upgraded from my 10 year old optoma hd20, which was excellent to this bad boy. As expected, it is just amazing, another triumph from optoma. The picture is bright, the image is sharp, and the price is fantastic. How do they do it so well. Looking forward to another 10 years of quality entertainment.
